O 5: Nomad Culture Living

Merzouga, 4 days, 4x4, 1 day camel

Day 1: Ouarzazate – Skoura – Todra gorges – Merzouga

Departure from the hotel at 8h00 towards the golden and amazing group of Erg Chebbi sand dunes. We first visit the Kasbah Amerhidil in the fascinating Skoura palm grove, and then we continue to Kelaa Mgouna, where the colors are already changed, a mixture of green tree gardens and the flourished roses. We follow our way to Tinghir through Dades valley and head to Todra gorges for lunch in a restaurant situated in the heart of the canyons with 300 m high, there will be a possibility to hike for an hour inside the valley for those who are interested in treks. In the afternoon, we leave to Erfoud via Tinejdad with its old underground irrigation system; we will discover the fossils and places where they are extracted before we achieve the dunes of Merzouga by Erg Chebbi. After a rest of 15 minutes, you ride camels directly to the oasis where you will enjoy the night with dinner and entertainment.

Day 2: Merzouga - Desert Camp (Camel Ride)

Meet your guide and camels in the morning to set off, with the bare essentials for your one night under the stars in the desert. After 2 hours ride, we stop for lunch next to a desert tree “Tamarisk” for about 1 1/2 hrs. In the shadow of this tree, we will have our lunch. After lunch we head towards the camp on the back of your camels. On arrival at the desert camp and your nomad tent, traditionally made of thick goat and camel hair, the camels are hobbled and mint tea is served while an evening meal is prepared and served under the stars. After dinner it is usual for the camel guides to drum and sing Berber songs. Night under the nomad tent or under the gleaming stars.

Day 3: Merzouga – Tazzarine – Draa Valley - Zagora

After an unforgettable quiet night among the sand dunes and in nomad’s land, you will admire the sunrise upon the dunes, then a typical breakfast is served and you return back with camels to the hostel to meet your driver, shower and leave to Rissani, we will explore its touristy area including the Mausoleum of Moulay Ali Cherif and the palm tree grove as a part of eco tourism exploration. Lunch break in Tazzarine, then we continue via the Draa valley to Zagora. Dinner and night in a hotel in Zagora.

Day 4: Zagora – Agdz - Ouarzazate

Breakfast is served to you in the hotel. Then you will be accompanied through the Draa valley and Agdz to discover the hidden treasures of the Southern region and also you will have enough time to explore new traditions and customs of the south region. Lunch is served in the Kasbah of Tamnougalte. Afterwards, you will enjoy the groves as a part of the eco tourism in Draa region. Arrival to the African Hollywood (Ouarzazate) in late afternoon. Transfer to your hotel for dinner and night.
